  • Living Here | Daleville Alabama

Learn about living in the City of Daleville Alabama Living Here Living Here Welcome to Daleville, Alabama Nestled in the heart of Southeast Alabama’s Wiregrass region, Daleville is a proud and friendly community known for its close connection to Fort Rucker—one of the largest military installations in the state. Covering approximately 14 square miles in Dale County, Daleville combines small-town charm with a rich heritage and a strong sense of community. A Name with History Daleville was named in honor of General Sam Dale, a pioneer scout, messenger, and leader who guided settlers through the Creek and Choctaw nations along the Gulf Coast in the early 1800s. Known for his courage and composure during emergencies, General Dale served with distinction in the Creek War of 1813–1814 and later represented Monroe County in the Alabama Legislature. From Pioneer Settlement to Thriving Community Daleville is one of the earliest towns established in the Wiregrass area. The land that became Southeast Alabama was ceded to the United States in the Treaty of Fort Jackson (1814), which ended the Creek Indian Wars. By the 1820s, pioneers began settling here, laying the foundation for a growing community. In 1831, the town of Dale’s Court House was founded as the original county seat of Dale County. When the county seat moved to Newton in 1838 (and later to Ozark), the town changed its name to Daleville in 1841. Growth Through the Years Throughout the 1800s, Daleville remained a quiet farming community. The arrival of the railroad in 1900 brought new opportunities, but it was the establishment of Camp Rucker during World War II that truly transformed the area. Later renamed Fort Rucker, the installation became the heart of Army Aviation training and a driving force behind Daleville’s growth. For more than 60 years, Daleville has proudly supported the men and women of the U.S. Armed Forces and their families. Many who were stationed here have chosen to make Daleville their permanent home. A Great Place to Call Home Today, Daleville offers residents a welcoming small-town atmosphere with convenient access to major destinations along the Gulf Coast. Military families and civilians alike enjoy a community that blends Southern hospitality with global influences—reflected in the city’s many restaurants, cultural experiences, and family-friendly events. Retail and entertainment options abound, with nearby Enterprise and Dothan offering additional shopping, dining, and recreation. Daleville’s proximity to Fort Rucker also makes it home to many civilian contractors and professionals working in aviation technology, maintenance, and advanced flight simulation.
