Water Works & Sewer Board

Statutory Authority: Sections 11-50-230 through 11-50-291, Code of Alabama

Five members, of which three may be elected officials, staggered six-year terms begin in November. Elected officials are appointed on the 1st Monday in November of each election year and serve during their elected term. Non-residents and non-registered voters may be appointed to serve on the board (AGO 2001-085); appointments made by the governing body

Powers: To operate the municipal water and sewer system

Daleville Planning Commission

Statutory Authority: Sections 11-52-1, et seq., Code of Alabama

Nine members – one member is the Mayor or mayoral designee; one is an administrative official of the city chosen by the Mayor; one member is a member of the City Council chosen by the council, other six members are chosen by the Mayor serving staggered six-year terms. Municipal officials serve until their term of office expires.

Powers: To provide planning, zoning, and subdivision controls for the city

Zoning Board of Adjustments

Statutory Authority: Section 11-52-80 Code of Alabama

Five members plus two supernumerary members who serve on call of the chairperson in the absence of regular members, staggered three-year terms, appointments made by the governing body

Powers: To hear appeals from decisions of municipal administrative officers relating to the application of municipal zoning regulations, to grant variances, and to authorize uses permitted on appeal

Library Board

Statutory authority: Sections 11-90-1 through 11-90-4, Code of Alabama

Five members, staggered four-year terms, appointed by the municipal governing body

Powers: To operate public libraries

Housing Authority of the City of Daleville

Statutory Authority: Sections 24-1-20 through 24-1-45, Code of Alabama

Five members staggered five-year terms; Mayor is the appointing authority

Powers: To deal with municipal housing problems

Daleville Redevelopment Authority

Statutory Authority: Sections 11-54A-1 through 11-54A-24, Code of Alabama

At least three members, staggered six-year terms, board members must be qualified electors of the city appointed by the municipal governing body

Powers: To revitalize and redevelop the central business district of the city

City Board of Education

Statutory Authority: Sections16-11-1 through 16-11-27 Code of Alabama

Five members staggered five-year terms; elected officials may not be members of this board; members must be residents of the municipality; members are appointed by the municipal governing body. Appointment made in April to begin the term at the first meeting in June.

Powers: To operate the free public schools within the municipality

City Tree Board

Statutory Authority: the City of Daleville Ordinance 03-20-90

Five members, staggered three-year terms, must be citizens, native or naturalized, and residents of this city, appointments approved by the City Council

Powers: To be responsible for trees and shrubs in parks, along streets, and in other public areas in the city and, when requested by the City Council, shall handle any special matter of question coming within the scope of its work

Daleville Police Volunteer Rescue Squad Board

Five-member board:

Mayor or the Mayor’s designee

Director of the Department of Public Safety

Fire Chief

A member of the City Council, appointed by the council

One community representative is appointed by the City Council each July to serve a one-year term.
