Spartan Fest
Daleville takes back trophy
The City of Daleville took back the trophy from the 1st of the 223rd Aviation Regiment for the first time in four years during the city’s annual Spartan Fest softball tournament held at Culpepper Park on Saturday, May 18. The city won two games in a planned two-out-ofthree tournament sponsored by the Daleville Area Chamber of Commerce. The softball game was originally one of many activities held by Daleville during Fort Rucker Appreciation Week, an event held by several cities throughout the Wiregrass. In 2015, the softball game was held in September and known as Spartan Fest, focusing on the relationship between the city and its sister unit. In 2018, Spartan Fest became a tournament. This year’s Spartan Fest included activities from local businesses, churches and organizations. Members of Daleville High School’s band and JROTC were also on hand to open the event. Daleville and other area queens were at the event to welcome players and guests. Local first responders were available for demonstrations and live music was provided during the game held to honor the military. Winning the softball game means the City of Daleville will be able to keep the trophy to display for a year until the next Spartan Fest.
