Driver's License
Driver's licenses are renewable every four years upon expiration date. Renewals may be
secured in the Probate Office, First Floor, Dale County Courthouse, Ozark, Alabama (334)
774-2754. Examination for driver's licenses may be taken at Dale County Annex Building,
South Union Avenue (South of Dale County Jail), Monday thru Wednesday from 8:00a.m. -
4:00p.m. (closed Thursdays and Fridays). Applicants for driver's licenses must be at least
16 years of age. New residents must secure a driver's license within 30 days.
Car Tags
Automobile license plates are purchased on a staggered system, according to where an
individual's name falls in the alphabet. At the time the license plate is purchased, ad
valorem taxes and price of tag for the automobile must be paid. Vehicle registration is
done in the Motor Vehicle Department Office, Dale County Courthouse (334) 774-8427. A
person who moves to Alabama from another state and who has a vehicle with a current
registration in his name has 30 days to register in Alabama.

Registration of Boats
Business License
Business licenses are purchased from the City Clerk of the City of Daleville, City Hall Building, (334) 598-2345. These licenses expire September 30th and can be renewed during the month of October. After November 1st, a 10% penalty is charged. After December 1st, a 15% penalty is charged. After January 1st the penalty is 25%.
All boats must be registered each year in the Probate Judge's Office.
Marriage License
Marriage licenses are issued by the Probate Judge's Office. Both parties must be 18 years of age to secure a license without parent's consent. Minimum age with parent's consent is 14 years of age for both parties. A minor must have consent of both parents unless one parent has full court ordered custody.
Voting Laws
In order to vote in Alabama, a person must be a citizen of the United States, 18 years or older. There are constitutional and statutory requirements which must be met before one can be registered. All persons must have registered within 10 days prior to the election. A person should register with the Board of Registrars Office in the basement of the Dale County Courthouse (334) 774-9038.
Personal Taxes
State, county and Municipal ad valorem taxes (except motor vehicles as stated above) are due October 1st and delinquent after December 31st each year. If you purchase real estate in Dale County, you should record the deed in the Probate Judge's Office. This deed will be picked up at the Tax Assessor's Office and assessed in your name the following October 1st. Taxes are paid in arrears, so you should have a clear understanding of who is to pay the taxes on October 1st following the purchase. Property taxes are due on the 1st day of October and delinquent after December 31st. If you purchase a home, you can sign for homestead exemption between October 1st and the third Monday in January following the purchase. For homeowners who are over 65 years of age or disabled, there are special exemptions based on income. You may call the Tax Assessor's Office for the specifics at (334) 774-2226. Owner-occupied homes are assessed at 10% of the appraisal value. Rental or business property is assessed at 20% of appraised value. The tax rate in the city of Ozark is $21.00 per $1,000.00 of assessed value. State income tax returns are due on April 15th. Forms are available from the Alabama State Department of Revenue, Dothan district office, 334 North Oates Street, Dothan, Alabama (334) 793-5803, or Alabama State Department of Revenue, Income Tax Division, P.O. Box 2401, Montgomery, Alabama 36140. Returns must be filed by a single person with an income of $1,500.00 or more, and by married persons whose family income amounts to $3,000.00 or more.
