The
Daleville City School System is a unique public school system located in Daleville, Alabama, the gateway to the United States Army Aviation Center at Fort Rucker. The student population numbers approximately 1,500 in grades K-12, a significant number of whom are dependents of military and civilian personnel assigned or employed at the military installation.
Enrollment Procedures:
The Daleville City School System offers a free public education for students in grades K-12. According to Alabama State Law, a child must have reached the age of 5 years on or before September 2nd of the school year for admission into kindergarten and 6 years of age on or before September 2nd of the school year for admission to the first grade.
Pre-registration for kindergarten and first grade is held during the first week of May each year. For more information concerning the kindergarten program, please contact A.M. Windham Elementary School at (334) 598-4466.
All students, upon entering school, must provide the following information: a copy of the child's birth certificate or other proof of age; the child's immunization certificate; the child's social security card; and in the case of transferring students, records from the previously attended school. Of particular importance is the certificate of immunization.

Education Programs:
The Daleville City School System provides a strong academic program at A.M. Windham Elementary (K-4), Daleville Middle School (5-8), and Daleville High School (9-12). Daleville students have consistently scored at or above the national norms on the Stanford Achievement Test. Daleville High School students score in the 97th percentile or higher on the State Graduation Exam.
Elementary reading instruction is leveled to provide the student with appropriate placement and instruction at their reading level. Students are administered a Mathematics placement test in grades 3-4 and are grouped for instruction. Remedial Math and Remedial Reading classes are provided for students who have skill deficits.
Daleville High School offers a varied and rigorous program. High standards are stressed and maintained in all academic areas. Students are offered Advanced Placement classes in Biology, English and United States History. Advanced classes in Physics, Pre-Calculus, computer Education, American Studies, and English are also offered. foreign language is offered in Spanish and is taught in a modern language lab. The High School participates in the "dual enrollment" honors program in cooperation with Enterprise State Junior College. In addition, students in grades 8-12 are provided an opportunity to enroll in selected vocational education courses. Courses presently available include Business education, Agribusiness Education, Horticulture, and Consumer Home Economics. Associated with the vocational courses are the affiliate organizations of FBLA, FFA and FHA that provide the student with club involvement and state competitions. The Daleville FFA chapter annually competes at the National Convention and in 1990, was recognized by U.S. News and World Report and IBM Corporation as having one of the top four service to community projects in the nation.
Programs designed for those students identified as needing exceptional educational opportunities are also provided in the school. Classes are available for the educable mentally handicapped, learning disabled, speech impaired, hearing impaired, emotionally handicapped and others requiring specialized services.
Other programs of interest to the students include beginning band, intermediate band, concert band, marching band, and choral music. The "Pride of the South Band" receives Superior ratings in marching and concert contests and has performed in national events. The JROTC Program is available to students age 14 and older. This program is recognized locally and regionally as most outstanding. The drill and rifle teams compete in area and region competitions and the Rifle team has been State Champion for seven years. Students from Daleville, as individual state winners, have attended the National Junior Olympic Rifle Competition in Colorado Springs for the pasts ten years. Daleville City Schools participate in the Odyssey of the Mind Program. This program, which features gifted and talented students, continually produces district and state winners. Student teams have participated in three international competitions as representatives of the State of Alabama. The athletic departments offers a variety of state championship programs for students in grades 7-12. Daleville High School students have been area and regional champions in football, basketball, track, volleyball, and golf. The High School Football team was State Champion in Class 4A in 1992 and State Runners-up in 1993, and the Boys Basketball team competed in the State Final Four in 1997. Girls athletic teams have won the Area and Regional championships in Volleyball and Softball for the pasts two years.
A School system on the move, the Daleville City Schools are undergoing a rapid program of improvement and expansion of facilities. The Daleville Middle and High Schools have recently completed a 1.2 million dollar renovation and expansion and A.M. Windham Elementary School has completed a one million dollar expansion to include six classrooms and a 400 seat cafeteria. All classrooms and offices are served by a fibred-optic and fast Ethernet computer network system capable of providing accelerated technology for many years in the future. Additionally, a five-year plan of capital improvements to include facilities, equipment, and technology upgrades, has been adopted by the Board of Education.
