Every single one of them was given a single vote to pick the police officer of the year, the firefighter of the year, the EMT of the year, Dispatcher of the Year,” said Department of Public Safety Chief Harvey Mathis. “Each had one vote. These are not ones I’ve randomly picked because I like a person.  These people are chosen because their peers recognize them as being the best in their position.
