Every year large containers marked for Toys for Tots can be found in various locations throughout the country. This year, the Daleville Department of Public Safety is participating by being a drop-off point for the program, said Director Harvey Mathis.

The senior citizens at the Daleville Senior Center have been busy for most of the year, crafting hundreds of items for their largest holiday market ever. Shoppers will find a multitude of homemade items from simple to elaborate and priced for most any budget.

The Daleville City Council announced multiple board openings at last week’s regularly scheduled council meeting. Altogether, there are 12 openings on six different boards.Interested citizens who would like to volunteer for positions should contact City Clerk Angelia Filmore at city hall.

Fred’s in Daleville makes donation to Daleville Department of Public Safety
Each year, Fred’s locations around the country commemorate the fallen heroes of 9/11 through a fundraiser for local emergency response, according to their corporate website.Through Sept. 11, Fred’s accepted donations at their store locations and on that day, store operating profits from sales were designated for local emergency response teams. The Daleville Department of Public Safety (DPS) was one of the corporation’s selected agencies to receive donations.

Corn roasting brings fresh vegetable program to Windham Elementary
Hundreds of PreK-6th grade students at Daleville’s Windham Elementary School (WES) were treated to freshly roasted corn on the cob last Thursday. The event was made possible by the school’s receipt of a Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program (FFVP) Grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture.The program is a federally assisted program that provides fresh fruits and vegetables to students in participating elementary schools during the school year. The FFVP targets elementary schools with the highest free and reduced price enrollments.This is the first year Windham has received the grant. The school was awarded $26,789 to provide opportunities for students to experience fresh food vegetables and fruit. Nearly 550 Daleville elementary students enjoyed the feast this year.
