Council votes to apply for sidewalk expansion grant
As contract crews continue work on sidewalks in the city, council members authorized Civil Southeast Engineering Group to begin the application process for an additional $245,175 sidewalk grant from the Alabama Department of Transportation. The grant application is due in January 2016, and if approved, current sidewalk projects will be expanded upon.“The state department approves all sidewalk project designs for engineering and safety and monitors all projects,” said Mayor Claudia Wigglesworth.“It’s part of our Comprehensive Plan. Again, I highlight for us to improve pedestrian amenities and linkages from residential neighborhoods to commercial areas and out to the school areas. That’s obviously something we had identified in our housing and neighborhood developments (of the plan),” she told the council.
