New Daleville postmaster sworn in
“I will faithfully and conscientiously perform all duties required of me as the Postmaster of Daleville, so help me God.”With those words Bradley Colquett was sworn in to office as the new Daleville Postmaster in a ceremony held at the post office Aug. 24.Colquett was sworn in to the post by Arnez Mayberry, Acting Manager of Post Office Operations for Area 5, which encompasses all the 363, 364, 365 and 367 zip codes, except Dothan, in South Alabama.“I am loving Daleville so far,” Colquett said following the ceremony. “I don’t think you could ask for a better office.”Colquett said he was in his third year at Auburn University, studying architecture, when a job opportunity came open in the Opp post office. “I started my career as a postal carrier and really enjoyed it and enjoyed the people,” Colquett said. “There are no better people than postal people. They are awesome.”Colquett comes to Daleville most recently from seven years in Austin, Texas, where he managed two post offices. His other postal assignments in a career that spans more than two decades include Louisiana, Anniston, North Florida and Washington, D.C.“I’m humbled and I’m proud of the opportunity to serve in Daleville,” Colquett said.“We are a postal family,” the eldest of the six children of Carolyn and Guy Colquett of Red Level said, introducing his parents who attended the ceremony.“Mom was a clerk for the postal service for 26 years,” Colquett said. “Dad was a clerk and a carrier for 30 years.”The graduate of Red Level High School said he is finally at a geographic location in his 26-year postal career where he can say he started in Opp. “And they know where I am talking about,” Colquett said with a smile. “That is the first time in my career.”
