Daleville hosts inaugural Wiregrass Punt, Pass and Kick event
The Daleville Recreation Department held its first inaugural Wiregrass Punt, Pass and Kick event with football players from all over the area competing from all age groups.Along with the competition, former Daleville High, Arkansas State and NFL star Robert Killow spoke to the children at the event and explained to them how the words “I can’t” should not be in a child’s vocabulary. The competitions at the event ranged from field goal kicking, punting, passing and a 40-yard dash.Local high school football stars even showed up as Elba quarterback Byron Johnson won the punt, pass, field goal and overall gold medals for the age 16-18 division, while Daleville receiver Tyler Presley impressed in the 40-yard dash. The Daleville Recreation Department hopes to make this event an annual event each year.“My team of volunteers and support for the event (Saturday) was so strong,” event coordinator Matthew Miller said. “I would like to give a special thanks to the 25 (soldiers) that came from Fort Rucker to help with the event. We love our military and are proud of them all. Next year we will be back for another fun filled day and I can’t wait.”Note: Matthew Miller was the event coordinator for the Punt, Pass and Kick event, but is not an employee of Daleville Parks and Recreation.
