DPD arrests man for child sex crimes
The Daleville Police Department has arrested a man for traveling to meet a child for an unlawful sex act and other sexual crime charges.According to DPD Investigator Lt. Noah Suiter, law enforcement officials had been in contact with a suspect since December 2016.Between 2-3 p.m. on Saturday, July 29, investigators with the Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Taskforce, members of the Daleville SWAT team, and patrol officers conducted an investigation that led to the arrest of the subject, Suiter said.The ICAC taskforce investigates crimes committed against children over the Internet and technology, according to Assistant Director Allen Hendrickson. He said child predators can use the Internet and social media to lure underage children for sexual actions.Ray Edwards, 47, of Clanton, was arrested and charged with child solicitation by computer, transmitting obscene material to a child, traveling to meet a child for an unlawful sex act and enticing a child.He was released from the Dale County Jail on Monday, July 31, on a $135,000 bond.Hendrickson said if any individual has information about crimes committed against children, contact the Daleville Police Department."We also encourage parents to monitor their children's social media actions," Hendrickson said.
