Daleville City Council approves resolution to apply for matching grant

After discussing new cost estimates for a proposed new and larger concession stand/press box for the Culpepper Municipal Park, the Daleville City Council approved a resolution at the Jan. 3 meeting, which allows for the application of a 50/50 matching grant to fund the project.The resolution states the city intends to make application to the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs for grant assistance “to develop a new support facility with accessible restrooms, a concession stand and press box at R.A. Culpepper Municipal Park from the Land and Water Conservation Fund...”The proposed cost of the new multipurpose building is $291,411 and, if approved, the grant will provide the city with 50 percent matching funds. The city’s portion will be $145,705.50.The resolution also states the city will holds its portion in reserve and that the city, if the grant is approved, “will comply with all applicable federal and state laws rules and regulations.”The resolution was unanimously adopted.Community Development Director at Southeast Alabama Regional Planning and Development Commission Scott Farmer said he would have the application to ADECA by Friday, Jan. 6, the due date to apply.The addition of the new concession stand/press box is part of the multi-phase expansion of Culpepper Park.In other business, the council tabled for a second time a grant request made by the Department of Public Safety. Acting Chief William Mansfield was out of the office and the council members had further questions before further considering the request to purchase software that would allow police to “copy” content of electronic devices, such as cell phones, when they are confiscated during arrests or investigations.Council members also approved an advertising proposal made by the chamber of commerce for a marketing magazine.The next council meeting will be Jan. 17, at 5:30 p.m. in the council chambers of city hall.
