The club also has a category for “Most Appealing to Children,” said Lela Smith, president of the club.Following the Dec. 20 city council meeting, the club presented certificates of award to those in attendance.Joe Wissell’s home on 59 Andrews St., was well worth a drive-by look, Smith and club member Jan Robertson said, adding how brighter and joyful the décor was. Wissell was awarded first place honors for the “Best Overall Home” division and received his certificate at the informal ceremony with city leaders present. The second place award went to Brian Henk of 9 Verna Circle. The Daleville Inn placed first in the “Best Overall Business” and The Diner placed second. The Diner employee Nicole Strops accepted the certificate of award on behalf of the restaurant. The “Most Appealing to Children” honors went to Laurence Mercillott, first place for his creative decorations at 113 Westridge Ct. Donald Mellon of 111 Eastridge Ct. took second place.Smith said, “There was more participation in the ‘Lighting up Daleville’ event this year than in past years. There were a lot of lights on homes and shrubs. The judges look for a theme in each display and had a hard time deciding this year because there were a lot of great displays.”Robinson said they hope to make the event even larger next year and may add a decorative door category.
