Cheers erupt at Citywide Pep Rally in support of Warhawks

That was one of the many cheers that the varsity cheerleaders of Daleville High School led during the Sept. 8 community-wide pep rally, sponsored by the Daleville Chamber of Commerce.More than 150 citizens joined chamber, city and school officials, the marching “Pride of the South” Band, the varsity football team and cheerleaders to show spirit and support prior to the high school’s first home football game of the season, Sept. 9, against Houston Academy. Heading into the game with that added support, the Warhawks dominated the Raiders with a 48-14 win.Attendees were able to hear several musical selections by the band and participate in cheers.As for the pep rally, Chamber Executive Director Nancy Garner said,  “I think it went good for our first time. We have some great ideas for next time. We are all excited.”  School and chamber officials hope to have another citywide pep rally for homecoming, which is on Sept. 30.Three-year Head Football Coach Josh Parrish said he and his football players were excited for the event and appreciative of the community support. He said having more community support has been a major goal of his.“I have really wanted to work on—since becoming head coach—getting more community support and more school spirit. This was great and was actually the idea of one of our students—chamber intern and band Color Guard Co-captain Aleecea Harris. The turnout was awesome. I am very pleased. It shows the guys that a lot of the people in the community do care,” said Parrish.A DHS football captain, Jaymiane Fils-Aime', addressed the cheering crowd and said, “On both of our away games, our side matched the side of the home team (in fans). I appreciate that support. We always hear you cheering us up, even when we are down.”
