Thousands expected for Daleville’s annual band classic

The 31 Annual Daleville Band Invitational will be held this coming Saturday, Sept. 24 at the football stadium on the DHS campus.The event will host 14 competing marching bands from throughout the Southeast, including Georgia, Florida and Alabama. Nichols said the different bands will be competing for the ultimate prize of “Best in Show” and all sections of the bands—band, majorette, percussion and color guard—will be competing.Performances will begin at 2 p.m. and end at approximately 8:30 p.m. Admission is $6 per person, except those 65 and older will be admitted for $3 and those under age three may enter at no cost.The annual event is sponsored by the Daleville Band Parents Association and features not only competing bands, but also performances by the “Pride of the South” at 7:30 p.m. and the University of Alabama-Birmingham Marching Blazers will perform at 7:45 p.m. Fort Rucker’s 98th Army Band will also perform at 5 p.m.Nichols said, the contest is judged by “experts in the field of band from the Southeastern United States.
