Daleville one step closer to new half-million dollar ball fields
Six of the seven bidders were on hand at the official bid opening at city hall. Bidding contractors were Arrington Curb and Excavation of Flomaton; Earth-Scapes, Inc., of Phenix City; Gencon Associates, Inc., of Dothan; Grady Ralls and Sons, Inc., of Evergreen; Midsouth Paving, Inc., of Dothan; Moody Contracting, Inc., of Opp; and S.A. Graham Company, Inc., of Brundidge. The total bid amounts ranged from a low of $468,788 to a high of $752,680.60. The bids and all that is included in each will be evaluated by the city and its engineering consulting firm, Civil Southeast, LLC, before the city council accepts and approves any particular bid to complete the project. The Culpepper Park expansion has been an ongoing process for the last several years. The park is located on North Daleville Avenue and contains two large playgrounds, a skate park, baseball field, softball field and green space that the town uses for community gatherings and special commercial events, such as the Annual Army Aviation Center Federal Credit Union Car Sale. Much of the green space, however, will be replaced with the two planned ball fields.Officials expect the new fields to be completed and game play to begin in the spring of 2017, giving the city an economic boost as it becomes more capable of hosting ball tournaments. The city sold land in the Industrial Ballpark to an existing company in August 2015 for $285,000. All of that money has been applied to the project. The following bids were received:Arrington Curb and Excavation - $752,680Earth-Scapes, Inc. - $598,168Gencon Associates, Inc. - $626,664Grady Ralls and Sons, Inc. - $569,362Midsouth Paving, Inc. - $662,399Moody Contracting, Inc. - $468,788S.A.
